The Gentle Bookshop
Gentle books for little ones and golden years, made in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, and printed by Amazon.
Who makes the books
The Gentle Bookshop is run by Robert Milven from Wakefield, in West Yorkshire, England. It is a small independent publisher, not a shop with a door: every title is a paperback printed and shipped by Amazon, and the sites on ainjection.github.io exist so you can look inside a book and print sample pages before you decide.
Poetry from The Gentle Bookshop is published under the pen name Janice Kingsley. The name is a pen name; the books are ours.
What we publish
- Colouring books: grayscale colouring for adults (Halloween and Christmas), bold and easy books for small hands, and single-page printables.
- Puzzle and activity books: seek and find scenes, mystery mosaics (colour by number), large-print word search and pocket sudoku.
- Children's non-fiction: the Big Book of Why series and Bug Facts for curious kids and little ones.
- Handwriting and learning: dysgraphia and left-handed handwriting workbooks for children and teens.
- Golden years: chair tai chi, gentle exercise, memory activity and large-print books for older readers and the people who care for them.
- Poetry, as Janice Kingsley.
How the books are made
Each book is designed digitally in Wakefield and checked page by page before it goes on sale. Colouring and activity pages are printed on one side only, so markers and heavy pencil never bleed onto another picture. Every book has sample pages you can print at home, free, so you can test the paper, the pencils and the difficulty before you buy.
Our standard: spooky, never scary; big print where big print helps; nothing on a page that a grandparent and a six-year-old could not sit and do together.
