From Volume Two, the characters and places: Santa filling the stockings and climbing the chimney, his reindeer landing on a snowy roof, the toymaker at his bench, the lit toy shop window, a stag among winter birches, a fox in deep snow, the coaching inn and the clock tower striking midnight.
